Vishal Sukumar

Vishal Sukumar is a Machine Learning Engineer at LoanBud, where he builds the AI systems that make SBA lending faster and more accessible for small business owners. Behind every loan application is a small business owner waiting on a decision that could change everything – his job is to make sure the technology never gets in the way of that.

He has built his career across fintech, AI startups, and open-source AI, working with teams to turn ideas into scalable, real-world products. His experience spans early-stage building and production systems. He holds a Master’s in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology and brings a pragmatic, impact-driven approach to engineering – focused on shipping systems that are reliable, and built to scale.

He’s the kind of engineer who isn’t satisfied with an AI system that performs well in testing – it has to hold up in the real world, under real conditions, for real people. That’s the only bar that matters.

Outside of work, Vishal is drawn to the outdoors – hiking through trails, exploring national parks, and quietly observing wildlife. He also enjoys traveling and the occasional game of basketball.
